Slowbro Concept Art
First off is the original concept art for Slowbro. The design for Slowbro was the eighth one finalized, making it one of the oldest Pokémon designs and one of the few original concepts to make it into the released game. The only notable difference between the initial and final design of Slowbro was the shell that attaches to this Pokémon’s tail. Originally there were going to be a variety of different sea shells, all based off common shell that you might find at a beach. Here take a look.
There was a spiny shell (used in the final design) and two others, one smooth and one that was a hell of a lot more spiny than the final design. I find these design choices interesting and the history behind the concept just as interesting. Growing up, my father’s favorite Pokémon were always Slowbro and Slowpoke. I even found him buying their trading cards and pinning them to his bulletin board in his office. The next thing I have to show you would have horrified my father.
