Arlin Plays Psychonauts, Black Velvetopia Part 2
And so our exploration of the winding streets continues. This time we see even more wrestlers guarding cards, each with their own personalities and foibles. As per usual, there’s a healthy dose of comedy with each one, but how are they as mini boss fights? I find it interesting that they switch up the game mechanics entirely for these fights. Not only have our standard brain-shaped health dots been replaced by a bar reminiscent of fighting games, but the environment has been mostly removed. Being a basic wrestling ring fashioned after the shape of a card, it’s utterly featureless, but due to its size it still restricts your movement sufficiently. Overall, my only gripe is that the pacing of each fight seems a little inconsistent, though that I’m sure is partly due to my own play style; I have a tendency to stick with my equipped powers instead of changing to something else immediately. Still, overall the difficulty compared to the payout seems appropriate, and even the one gripe I had is relatively minor in light of what they’ve done right. Have a look for yourself.
