E3 2012 is just around the corner!

We are just around the corner from another glorious E3 and I can’t express my level of excitement. This year has been nothing but insane with video game news. Everything from Microsoft losing a major lawsuit in Germany, to life altering Skyrim to Mark Hammil agreeing to voice joker again, it’s everything a gamer like myself could ask for. With a lot of good games coming out and new rotation of consoles coming in most likely the following year, we prepare ourselves for what might be the last year “owning” next gen consoles but look ahead to whats to come and some more amazing titles on their way.

Microsoft and Sony have been heavily rumored to be developing their next consoles, which I’m sure will get their officially unveiling in E3 2013, but this year it’s going to be all about the Wii and U. Wii U’s new redesigned controller, interestingly enough, might have two joy stick pegs on it. To give a brief over view of the console, Nintendo again leads the way in innovative gaming by basically pairing a gaming tablet with a console. The tablet also has plenty of functions on its own, its virtually owning a new handheld and a console (that looks the size of the Wii but with rounded edges). Another, and not really all the surprising, thing is that Nintendo seemed to have fizzled out on titles for the Wii. With the exception of Mario Party 9, there’s really not much happening so if you haven’t invest in a 3DS or you might be experiencing a bit of a Nintendo release drought. By the way, I personally love seeing Reggie Fils-Aimme speak so I can’t wait for him to take to stage.

The power house that is Microsoft has been pumping out some pretty good titles this year and did fairly well with the sequel to Final Fantasy 13, which of course is available for the Playstation 3. All eyes appear to be on the big titles Last of Us and of course, Halo 4, being carried by a new team. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens with Microsoft in the next year or two. With their recent lawsuit lose against Motorola Mobility , they could face some very touch days ahead of them. They might end up being some what of a boring year, I’m expecting some new Tom Clancy footage, maybe some DLC for games previously released and more Halo 4. One can only hope we get something big from them and a decent Kinect game wouldn’t hurt either.

Sony reported some good news the other day of actually doing what Capcom and Nintendo could not and that was turn a profit, some 190$ billion dollars. With numbers like that, let’s hope they’re ready to wow us. Sony has an array of games and dedicated gamers. I’m looking forward to some new God of War: Ascension footage and some of the new Sly Cooper footage for the PSVita. Maybe we’ll see if they’re going to put out some play station move games, since I feel like that was an investment that didn’t really pay off. They also weren’t hurt by the insanely successful Playstation arcade game Journey. We’ll see what PS3 can bring to the event this year, with a new handheld system and some good titles and lets all cross our fingers that we get some concrete news about The Last Guardian.

Ubisoft’s big power house this year will be Assassins Creed 3, which gained some serious buzz after the cover leaked shower and American Indian protagonist and putting the players in a new era of history to enjoy some killer kick-butt action. Other anticipated titles are Far Cry 3, which is coming 4 years after its successful predecessor and the new Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots title.

With the big companies still gunning for our money and new consoles already being promoted and rumored, they’ll be a lot to look forward to at this years E3 press conference which runs June 5th through the 7th.

5 titles I’m dying to hear more about

- Dead or Alive 5

- Animal Crossing 3DS

- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

- DmC: Devil May Cry

- Playstation All Stars Battle Royale

A Review of The Pagemaster: This Book’s a Copy

Okay, so if Horror and Adventure are here, then WHERE ARE THEY IN THE GAME???

Year: 1994 // System: Super Nintendo, Game Gear, Sega Genesis, Game Boy // Publisher: Fox Interactive // Developer: Probe Software Ltd. // Genre: Platformer

>>> Lots of jumps. Stomping on enemies. Occasionally gathering powerups that allow you to shoot projectiles and strike the bad guys with swords. Climbing up and across vines. Boy, I’ve never seen a game like this before…

…oh wait, I have?

Super Mario Bros.? Mega Man? Castlevania? Ninja Gaiden? The Lion King? Aladdin? The Wizard of Oz? Sonic the Hedgehog? Contra? Darkwing Duck? Read the rest of this entry »

Commercialization: Mega Man 6 and the Newly Re-Designed NES!!!!

So much static, so much 90′s. It is beautiful. I want to buy this. This is actually well done commercial, it appears to have a big budget and it was pretty interesting and showed off the product well.

8.5/10 Good job Capcom

BeATW: $10,000 Dollars of Pokemon Cards

stupid

Before you start digging through your closet to find your own cards, I want you to know that these are not worth anywhere near this amount. This auction is for around 150 cards with about 30 first editions. The creator says he isn’t expecting that amount but he is looking for reasonable offers. Sadly, listing it at this amount just makes him look like a giant tool. They are worth around $30 bucks if he is looking for a better price.

A Review of Pocahontas: Sexist Game? Or is it just me?

Year: 1996 // System: Sega Genesis // Publisher: Disney Interactive // Developer: Westwood Interactive // Genre: Platformer/Adventure

>>> At last! Something different! Although borrowing the side-scrolling formula that appeared beaten to death by every single old-school Disney game I’ve seen and played so far, Pocahontas whipped out the puzzles and cooperative characters to make the player rely on (his or) her head rather than (his or) her thumbs in order to progress. Sneaking was important. Pushing logs and using both characters together was important. Overwhelming characters with brute force, for once, was not important. But there was something fishy about this game (and no, I don’t mean the animal spirit that you could gain of the fish…which is ironically the only one I could not find…). It was too short, and it was too easy, and nobody either died or was shown dying (like Kokoum). This prompted me to come to a controversial conclusion: Read the rest of this entry »

BeATW: ProtoLink

e

Being Grey Makes it Worth More?

What is this here? This is a prototype action figure of Link from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time riding Epona. The normal version of this figurine sells for a good chunk of money but this prototype figurine it worth even more. There are two on eBay right now, one for $350 and the other for $800 dollars. That is quite the price change, I guess someone forgot to do some research before listing this auction. It is actually pretty neat, check it out here.

Review of Superman: Crummy graphics never get old

The Man of Steel likely felt like a great big heel after seeing this 2600 game

Not many people know that the writer of the screenplay of “Superman: The Motion Picture” was none other than Mario Puzo, who film and literary fans more likely know as the author of “The Godfather” book and film series. Though the 1978 big-budget hero blockbuster had scattered moments of pathos, like Supes bawling over his failure to save the girl he loves while he was busy rescuing a bus full of kids who were about to plunge over a broken bridge, it doesn’t match the original Gangsta film in terms of making us feel like crap. A Review of The Lion King: Made by the Frustrated Virgin

Year: 1994 // System: Sega Genesis, SNES, PC // Publisher & Developer: Virgin Interactive // Designer: Seth Mendelsohn // Genre: Platformer/Action

>>> The people who made this game were angry. I don’t know at who, or about what, but whatever it was that they were angry about, it must have ticked them off something bad, because their anger quickly became our own. And the frustrations did….not…END! There are some hard games out there with a status of legend. Ninja Gaiden, Contra, Castlevania, Mega Man, Kid Icarus…each and every one of those titles presented challenges to the player that at times seemed insurmountable. But each and every one of those titles also presented the player with some degree of mercy (except, maybe, Contra, which I still have yet to play). But The Lion King for the PC, Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo provided the kind of combination that made many a player desire to upturn their television: a game that was both brutally hard AND unforgiving… Read the rest of this entry »

Review: LittleBigPlanet 2

I hope I’m not too late to the party. Am I? I guess it’s no big deal because there’s still thousands of people playing LittleBigPlanet 2 as we speak. And for some pretty damn good reasons, I’ll have you know. After all, the original was absolutely overflowing with charm and personality, and certainly enough of each to warrant a second trip through Craft World. In fact, the only reason that I’m sitting here writing about it is because my sister wanted a go at it. I guess I’m generous enough to give it up for the next fifteen minutes or so.

Anyways, let’s stop yapping about it, and actually review this game! Read on, friends.

Pokemon Black and White Version 2 Anime Intro!

IGN has gotten it’s hands on this fresh and awesome new trailer for Pokemon Black and White 2. Bringing back the tragically flawed villain N and Team Plasma and a brand new villain. With a slue of new characters as well as a new hero and a new rival, this game looks even better than it’s predecessor.

This game also seems to feature some of the older generation Pokemon. You see Lucario throughout the trailer as well as some Magnatons, granted they certainly aren’t the most interesting Pokemon but hopefully we see more favorites from generation one. I’d kill to have a double battle team with Nidoking and Haxoras.

Pokemon Black and White became the fastest per-ordered game to go past the 1 million sales mark for the Nintendo DS in 2011. Black and White will also be the first games in the series to feature a direct sequel, being released over seas next month and later this fall in North America.  Pretty impressive for the games to be still as successful as they are considering this is the fifth installment in the ongoing and still massively popular Pokemon series. Check out the video and enjoy the Poke’ goodness.
